Archaeoceratops: The Early Horned Wonder from Ancient Asia
Say hello to Archaeoceratops oshimai—a compact, plant-loving pioneer from the Early Cretaceous! This little ceratopsian lived around 125 million years ago in what is now north-central China, roaming lush floodplains in search of tasty vegetation. Though it lacked the giant horns and massive frills of its later relatives like Triceratops, Archaeoceratops still rocked a small frill and a strong beak, perfect for snipping through prehistoric plants.
At only about 3 feet long, this dino proves that you don’t need to be big to be important. As one of the earlier members of the ceratopsian family, Archaeoceratops gives paleontologists a closer look at how this iconic group of horned dinosaurs got its start. It walked on two legs, had a lightweight frame, and shows how the dino family tree branched out in fascinating directions.
