Xenodens Skull: The Smallest Sea Monster
About 66 million years ago, in the ancient seas of what is now Morocco, swam Xenodens calminechari—a mosasaur unlike any other. While most mosasaurs were giants, this species was barely longer than a grown human, making it one of the smallest known members of its family. Its name, meaning "strange tooth," comes from its unusual short, blade-like teeth, which formed a jagged saw perfect for slicing through fish, squid, and anything else unlucky enough to cross its path.
