Globidens dakotensis: The Ultimate Shell-Crusher of the Cretaceous Seas

Patrolling the shallow waters of the Western Interior Seaway around 80–75 million years ago, Globidens dakotensis was one of the most specialized mosasaurs to ever evolve. Found in what is now the central United States—including the Dakotas, Kansas, and surrounding regions—this marine reptile traded the classic sharp, conical mosasaur teeth for something far more unique: thick, rounded, dome-shaped teeth built to crush shells. Hard-shelled prey like clams, ammonites, and armored invertebrates didn’t stand a chance against its powerful bite.

Our Signature Series Globidens Skull Kit is created in collaboration with Kathryn Abbott—better known as Kathronodon, the beloved paleo educator, mosasaur specialist, and proudly self-proclaimed Mother of Mosasaurs. This premium kit showcases the unmistakable crushing dentition that defines Globidens dakotensis, celebrating both an extraordinary predator and the modern voice bringing ancient oceans to life for a new generation.
