AQUILOPS AMERICANUS

Aquilops: The Tiny Trailblazer of the Cretaceous

Meet Aquilops, the tiny dino with a big personality! Hailing from what’s now Montana, USA, this pint-sized pioneer roamed the Earth around 109 million years ago. As one of the earliest horned dinosaurs in North America, Aquilops may have been small—about the size of a rabbit—but it played a huge role in our understanding of ceratopsian evolution. At BioBuild Studios, we’re all about celebrating the little guys who made big waves in the prehistoric world!

Despite its size, Aquilops is a big deal to paleontologists. Its name means "eagle face," thanks to its sharp, beak-like snout—perfect for snipping through tough prehistoric plants. This early ceratopsian didn't have the iconic frill or horns of its famous cousins like Triceratops, but it was one of the first of its kind to make the journey from Asia to North America. Its discovery helped scientists piece together the great dinosaur migration that shaped the prehistoric landscape we know and love today!
